Gibson ES-175 2003

A very clean, attractive example from 2003 and little used. There's not a lot of things that can be said about the world's most popular jazz guitar.

Just listen to recordings by Joe Pass, Jim hall, or just about anybody who was a major player in the jazz field. It's versatile too; this is the choice of one of America's best blues bands, The North Mississippi Allstars. It's got that deep, resonant body, a cutaway, and a pair of humbucking pickups. Just about perfect by anyone's standards. Then of course, there's the neck and fretboard: as perfectly matched to a player's hands as can be. Isn't it time you got your hands on one? With original hard case. Additional photos on request. £2100

Gibson CF 100E 1954

Mahogany back / sides / neck, spruce top. X bracing. Single coil pickup with volume / tone controls. All original except tuners replaced (originals supplied). This guitar has wear, dings and scratches consistent with its age. It plays very nicely and sounds good both plugged in and unplugged. Supplied with new hard case. Additional photos on request.

Back in the 1950s this acoustic flat top with cutaway and pickup was way ahead of its time. This particular guitar was owned and played for decades by an African American gentleman who lived on the Southside of Chicago. £3900

Gibson J 160E 1955

Mahogany back / sides / neck, spruce top, adjustable saddle and single coil pickup with volume and tone controls. 15 / 20 fretboard. This all original guitar has wear. Dings and scratches consistent with its age, is in good condition, plays well and sounds impressive both plugged in and unplugged. Supplied with new hard case. More photos available on request.

One of the more specialized Gibsons of the 1950's was this electrified flat top: the J-160E, introduced in late 1954. Designed specifically for country/western performers getting drowned out by their increasingly well-amplified bands, the fairly fancy 16" Jumbo sported the same electronics and cosmetic features as the earlier small-body CF-100E. The J-160E was a successful guitar in its time but is best remembered not for any great success in the C&W field but as one of the iconic Beatles guitars of the 1960's. John Lennon and George Harrison used early 1960's J-160-E's as recording and touring instruments extensively during the first half of the band's most successful period, and the Gibson remains indelibly linked to the Beatles legacy. £4800
